HOPE AND THE WARRIOR 10 Sep 2011
By L. Sims TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Lady Hope had decided to go for an adventure, her Uncle has said she is to marry it was this announcement from her Uncle that prompted her to go, hoping maybe to have not only new experiences, but maybe to find true love. Hope leaves dressed as a boy taking her dog Lady with her. Eric Lord Of Shanekill has been charged with finding her and bringing her home, but his wife Faith is pregnant with their first child so he sends his friend and right hand man Colin. Whilst searching for the missing woman Colin and his men apprehend a boy stealing food from their camp. Admiring the boys tenacity and courage Colin allows the boy Harold to travel along with them. This suits Harold/Hope very well where better to hide from those who look for you, than to stay right under their noses.
Eventually the band of men return to Shanekill without having found any trace of Lady Hope, of course little did they realise she travelled with them.
This is the second book in the Irish eyes series, though not quite as good as the first it is still a good read. I liked Colin's character in the first book and I was not disappointed now he has his own story, he is a real charmer especially with the ladies. But a loyal and true friend to those he cares about. Hope was a real bundle of trouble getting into many difficult situations, especially when disguised as a boy, even having a fist fight. It is while she is pretending to be a lad that she and Colin become friends. Colin feels very protective of Harold/Hope, and is initially very angry when Hope is unmasked. But he eventually appreciates her courage. The relationship between Colin and Hope is not without it's problems but there is much passion between them. It was great to have characters from the first book play their part in this story in particular Eric and Faith. I would have given this 5 stars but knocked one off because I felt that Hopes disguise as a boy went on for too long IMO, more than halfway into the book. But that being said this was still a good read, that I happily recommend.

lacking depth 15 Oct 2011

i enjoyed the first book the Irish Devil. I foolishly thought that the second book will be better. i feel that there is too much emphasis on the sexual content between Hope and Colin at the later half of the book. chracters were introduced such as Shamus and Raf and soldiers which I thought could be dealt with rather than on the seduction of the two main characters. Plus when the three main heroes are away from the keep who is minding the place...how can they leave the guest - Shamus - on his own? what happened to the soldiers and who do they answer to? Who is Raf and what happens to his followers? inco-orporating these answers to the book would really enhance the novel, without jeopadising the focus on the two main players.

A little let down 7 Dec 2002
By Deborah MacGillivray HALL OF FAME VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
I had misgivings about a book in the series dealing with Ireland that had Calanais on the Isle of Lewis on the Cover - hello, that is SCOTLAND!! And that was a hint of things to come...

I adored the first in the Irish Eyes series, so much so I have bought them all as they came out, and utterly adore many of them, though there have been a couple pits in with the cherries. The book is a nice read, and had a lot of promise, but the journey grew tedious and contrived. It just really was a let down after the first one by this author. I just hope when she gets to Charity (one presumes she would follow Faith and Hope) in her own trilogy within the series, it is to the level of the original book.
