5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous collection from three fantastic authors 7 Jun. 2014
By Maria
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Niamh Greene, Michelle Jackson and Marisa Mackle are all authors I admire greatly and love their books. So when I heard that they'd teamed up to write this collection of short stories, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. When I read books of short stories, I usually dip in and out, maybe reading one on my coffee break or another on the bus. But I have to admit to not being able to put this one down. I kept telling myself 'Just one more' until I had the whole thing read in one sitting.

Each author brings something different to the book. Marisa's writing is warm and draws you in, Michelle's descriptions of the various holiday destinations are fabulous and make me feel as though I'm there and Niamh is a genius comedy writer, who writes with heart and soul. Reading Niamh's story with her Demented Housewife characters made me remember how I adored her Demented series and I'm hoping it's given her a taste of it again and we'll see a follow up in the form of a book in the near future.

For just 99p, this book is a bargain and is definitely what it claims to be - The Ultimate Poolside Read. But for those of us who aren't lucky enough to escape to the sun, I'd also recommend it as a bedtime, lunchtime, coffee time or any time read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not just for reading by the pool ;-) 20 Aug. 2014
By Sharon TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
Three of Ireland's bestselling authors have come together to bring readers an entertaining collection of holiday-themed short stories that take us across the globe from Ireland to the Caribbean. And the topics covered are varied too, from relationship breakdowns to new romances, mistaken identity to internet dating, some of these stories will definitely make you smile whilst others have a slightly more serious undertone to them.

One of my favourites has to be Flying High by Marisa Mackle which had me snorting with laughter as I could picture the opening scenario so vividly...

If you're a fan of Niamh Greene's Demented Housewife series then you'll be pleased to hear that Susie and her family make a brief appearance on a family holiday to France with all the dramas you can expect to find from them!

I have to be honest though and say that although I did enjoy this collection, a couple of the stories did feel a little rushed so maybe there could have been fewer stories included and instead a couple of longer length stories.

Although Irish Girls on Holiday has a tagline of 'the perfect poolside read', this is a collection of stories that can be enjoyed at anytime, anywhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars blokes love a good poolside read too 6 May 2014

it's the humour that gets me. women are much better at writing funny and humorous stuff compared to men. i think it's all in the dialogue. women listen better and therefore are able to reproduce on the page the quirks and funny characteristics in people's everydayh speech.
this is a great read-in-waiting. pack it onto your kindle before heading to airport.

4.0 out of 5 stars Grab this along with your summer essentials! 4 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
These three Irish authors have teamed up to create a collection of short stories ideal for the upcoming holiday season. 19 stories in all, each one has a link to the holiday theme and the escapism we all crave from time to time. Varying in length and style, each author has put their own stamp on the tales, with not all of them being based abroad. Some are funny, witty and light while others have a more serious undertone. Marisa Mackle uses her past experiences as an airline official, Niamh Greene had me in stitches with her brilliant character, Susie, from her Demented Housewife series, and Michelle Jackson brings us on wonderful visual tours of amazing holiday destinations.

The Demented Housewife Goes On Holidays was definitely my favourite of the stories but having read the whole book in an hour and a half, instead of just dipping into it as originally planned, I think this shows that the whole ensemble is great.

The Perfect Poolside Read is the tagline, but I reckon The Perfect Coffeetime Read works equally well, as the stories are perfect for those rare moments when you get ten or twenty minutes to yourself and grab your Kindle from your bag.

Well worth the 99p on Amazon......Grab your sunglasses, a cocktail or even just a cuppa, sit back, relax and escape!

Yup. Does what it says on the tin - or should I say cover. Made me feel like I was on holiday. Which was just what I needed. Loved to be able to dip in for a bit of sunshine whenever I wanted. Really enjoyed the humor especially. Bring on the next collection.
