4.0 out of 5 stars A RICH MIXTURE -SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE 28 Nov 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is a 10-cd set of Irish Traditional music, four of which are compilations. The full spectrum is covered -instrumental, vocal, groups, ceili bands, ceili & set dance music.
Many tracks/artists included have not been available for years & are not likely to be reissued. For example the 1981 album by the original Cherish the Ladies group is here. The group included the late Peg McGrath(Needham)an All-Ireland winner on flute.Hard-to-obtain tracks are here: from the group Na Fili,Roger Sherlock &/or Sean Maguire, Seamus Tansey,Shaskeen C Band etc.
No background or sleeve notes and an over-used title but presented in a sturdy cd box. This is nontheless outstanding value for the price.

For any two of what's in here it's worth the purchase and the listen. Here's what's inside, from the archives of the once active Irish recording company 'Outlet':

1.) "Seamus Tansey: Traditional Irish Music" ~ One of Ireland's finest flautists

2.) "Finbarr Dwyer: Pure Traditional Irish Accordion Music"

3.) "John & James Kelly: Irish Traditional Fiddle Music" ~ a great album

4.) "Tara Folk: Folksongs of Ireland"

5.) "The Best of Irish Ceili Music" ~ Shaskeen, Eamon Ceannt, The Pride of Erin Ceili Band, etc...

6.) "Rince: Complete Irish Dancing Set" (alias "First Steps and Beyond"

7.) "Festival of Traditional Irish Music #1" ~ Roger Sherlock, The Sean Ryan Trio, Na Fili, Sean Maguire and Joe Burke, Brian Vallely, etc.

8.) "Festival of Traditional Irish Music #2" ~ more of the same, including Tom McHale, John Whelan, Finbarr Dwyer, Joe Burke, Kevin Loughlin, etc.

9.) "Cherish the Ladies" ~ Peg McGrath, Mary Mulholland, Kathleen Smyth

10.)"Armagh Pipers Club: Song of the Chanter"

As said in another review, something for everyone. Just finding two that interest you makes it a worthwhile purchase... I definitely recommend it, to the point that I've purchased a dozen of these for others, including more to give as gifts.

5.0 out of 5 stars CELTIC SOULS 10 CD SET 21 Jun 2011
By Margie
Format:Audio CD
This set will always be the most treasured item in my collection, quality of sound is excellent. For some reason I expected to find poor sound quality, considering that a lot of the tracks are recordings from many years ago, I am pleasantly surprised that this entire collection sounds as if it could have been recorded only last week, someone, indeed a lot of people must have worked together to make this a classic. You may never have bought an Irish record before, you may never buy one again, but if you have any interest in Irish music and song, this is the one you should have.

5.0 out of 5 stars A HEAVEN SENT COLLECTION OF IRISH TRADITIONAL MUSIC 17 Feb 2013
By RickR - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Once upon a time in Ireland there was a record label called Outlet Records. They offered LP's of some truly talented musicians as well as offerings by Ceili bands and albums of patriotic songs. Some of the musicians on the label were The Dubliners, Seamus Tansy, Finbarr Dwyer, Seán McGuire, Joe Burke, John and James Kelly, Brian Vallely and the Pipers Club of Armagh and on and on. This collection culls from the label and offers a bewildering collection of tunes and songs. Each CD has plenty of music on it, not a skimpy offering as a lot of " best of " collections often offer. The mastering is good and so is the sound quality.

If you're looking for great traditional Irish music for a bargain this is the collection.
