5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific music, 1st-class recording, 4 Oct 2004

This review is from: Ireland: Greater Love Hath No Man (Audio CD)
I actually have the first issue of this CD, CHAN 8879, and it's a real stunner. The acoustic is spacious, and the music highly original. The London Overture gets things off to a striking start, followed by Ireland's 1937 Coronation cantata 'These things shall be'. The choral singing is magnificent, and the piece, although a little dated, comes over well. Controversially, Ireland quotes the 'Internationale', always a touching moment, which is quite magical here. The other choral pieces are equally impressive, and the Epic March brings proceedings to a stirring close.

Ireland is not so well-known as during his life-time (he died in 1962), but this record is a great way to discover his highly original music. I really can't recommend it strongly enough.
