This review is from: Ipswich Town : The Inside Story (Hardcover)
The perfect read for somone who is interested in the ups and downs of Ipswich Town FC. It goes through each season pulling out the high and low spots as well as bringing to life events that really DID occur.Additionally, nearly all the games are covered in some form or fashion. Overall a terrific read and a MUST for the Ipswich collection.

A great way to relive the recent past, 3 April 2002

This review is from: Ipswich Town : The Inside Story (Hardcover)
For anyone who has supported the club during the nineties this is a wonderful book for dusting off those memories and reliving the (mostly) good times, especially knowing that there is a fairy-tale ending!
Every fan has differing memories of events and some things stand out better than others but Phil has successfully managed to touch on almost every occasion during the past decade.
In doing so, there is a tendency for much of some chapters to be a simple rendition of results and scorers without building up any tension or feeling for the way the season was progressing and how the characters were developing. summarising some groups of results and focusing on the emotions in the club as the seasons develop may have made for a more interesting read in these cases.
The most interesting parts of the book are the numerous quotes from the people on the inside, be they managers, chairman or players. This is what really gives the book life.
It is the most professional offering to come from a Fanzine background thus far and is worthy of its place in any ITFC bookcase.
A more thorough proof-read and a little more attention to the writing style would also have improved this book further.
There is now room for older Town fans to sharpen their quills and cover the 1980's, 1970's, etc.

Bland & Boring, 30 Jan 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Ipswich Town : The Inside Story (Hardcover)
In what was a great opportunity to write an exciting and drama filled book about a turbulent and ultimatelly triumphant period in the history of itfc, the author fails miserably. I was at many of the great and heart-breaking moments throughout the years the book covers, yet the description of these events leaves me cold, bored and listless.
The great book which the superb fans of Ipswich Town F.C. deserve has yet to be written - if you want a bland account of the last decade, this will satisfy your basic needs, but my advice would be to keep your money and instead buy a bucket of Portman Road pies.
