Format:Audio CD
So disappointed on receiving this as a birthday present to hear that it is obviously NOT the original, which I have on a very old and delicate tape. I was too young to see the original show but have grown up listening to the music through my family, which is wonderful and inspirational. Please someone revive the show and get the original soundtrack onto cd and more easily available.

I agree with the previous reviewer. The original soundtrack was a lot better and I was a bit dissapointed that a lot of the songs had been modernised. I still enjoyed the CD though and it brought back lovely memories.

I have loved this musical ever since it first played in the early seventies, so I was thrilled when I found this CD of the 'original'. However, I was disappointed to find that this is not the same version I bought on cassette when I went to see them perform in London.
This CD, for me, does not have the same soul and heart of Africa, it seems to have been produced for the Western market and the soloists on 'Mother Mary' and 'Song of Hope (I believe), sound too professional and staged. They have lost the beauty in the simplicity of those wonderful songs.

The CD says it is from the Original cast. This is not correct as the original record was released by Ashtree Productions in 1975. Read more

Feel good music!
Agreed, not as good as the original show soundtrack which I saw in SA many moons ago, but still full of strong African beats and wonderful melodies for feel good mood! Read more

Memories
I purchased this for my step father who fondly remembered the original music from the seventies, unfortunately this version does not live up to the original.

BEWARE - this is most definitely not Ipi Tombi.
Be warned - there's an extra 'n' in the title of this one (i.e. Ipi nTombi) which is easy to miss. The original stage show and LP were just called Ipi Tombi
