Product Description

The IPEVO Point 2 View (P2V) USB Camera is an affordable and easy-to-use alternative to make your classroom and presentations more interactive and dynamic. Simply plug the P2V in to your existing Mac or Windows computer connected to a projector and use the P2V to display notes, math problems, maps, and share printed articles and clips without having to spend money on copies. Featuring a solid weighted base and multi-jointed stand, the P2V brings an extra dimension to your presentation. In addition to showing printed notes and articles, the P2V can be used to show 3-dimensional objects at any angle - ideal for subjects like Science, Geometry, and Art classes. With its high-resolution 2.0-megapixel CMOS sensor and full autofocus lens, the P2V USB Camera delivers great image quality even when projected onto the big screen. With a Macro focus as close as 1.5" (5cm), you can zoom into the specific details you want to present. Coupled with the included snapshot software, you can snap images from the class and use them for study guides and tests, or incorporate into PowerPoint presentations. The P2V is a USB 2.0 Video Class (UVC) device, which means it is plug-and-play on Macs and Windows PCs (see System Requirements), and compatible with most video conferencing and web-casting softwares including Skype, Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger, iChat, Yahoo! Messenger, and AIM. System Requirements: Mac OS X 10.5 or higher Microsoft Windows 7, Vista or XP 1.4GHz CPU or higher (2.4GHz recommended) 512MB RAM (1GB recommended) 200MB free hard disk space

Full review here on my teaching blog. Suffice to say I use it daily.

Conclusions:

At under a tenth the cost of the AverVision it makes sense for budget strapped departments to think about one or two of these instead as the quality etc might not be as good but it is, as I have found, SUFFICIENT to achieve the same end results, especially if you use software to record things. I'm loving it and will use it regularly which lessens the pressure on demand for the departmental visualiser. I'm going to show it in use at the next IT session I lead along with an insight into QR Codes and Prezi.

With that being said, the camera is only 2.0 megapixel and the quality, whilst
clear enough for small videos, recordings and video-calls online, will not
hold up to bigger resolutions, which is a shame, because everything else is
perfect.

Another point to add, is that the Ipevo Point 2 View doesn't have a built in
video-recorder. You have to use a 3rd party piece of software to conduct your
video. I found that the software you use greatly varies the quality of your
recording. You may experience severe audio-lag depending on what you use.

The zoom features on the camera seem to work well enough, however, even if
you select continuous zoom, the camera will auto re-focus which, when recording
will blur/then focus your video during a live recording - Which can look
unprofessional. Whether or not the camera was intentionally made to just
take pictures or was infact made for using for capturing videos with 3rd
party software remains unclear. The official website doesn't go into much
detail apart from stating that it can record with 3rd party software but
they do not endorse it.

Overall, I would say this is a good webcam & recording device, but it's
let down a little bit by the auto-focus and low 2.0 megapixel view.
However, the fully moveable stand is fantastic and there's something
about the kit that just stands out and makes you want to use it and
experiment with it.

Overall, I'd give it 4 stars. If the auto-focus and megapixel issues
were improved, this would be the kind of item you put on your
Christmas list, just incase Santa thinks you've been good this year.

IF you are looking for a budget solution to a desk/document camera then look no further. This is brilliantly simple and easy to use and makes a great addition to any classroom instructor/teacher's toolkit if full spec visualisers are off the agenda.

My one criticism is that the stand could well be bigger. I'd look to mod something from an IKEA desk lamp if I was to buy one again.

Works excellently as a document camera in a school - with Windows pre-installed software (no administrator rights). Also used with IPEVO P2V Magnifying lens.

I purchased this to photograph my coin collection for insurance purposes, although it is marketed as a document camera, it does the job far better than an ordinary camera could. If you need a good photo in reasonable detail this will do the job.

Great item, perfect performance! This document camera is a bargain. I have used it for over a year and the quality of the picture and all the features are phenomenal. The price is extremely low compared to other document cameras!
