Product Description

The IPEVO Point 2 View (P2V) USB Camera is an affordable and easy-to-use alternative to make your classroom and presentations more interactive and dynamic. Simply plug the P2V in to your existing Mac or Windows computer connected to a projector and use the P2V to display notes, math problems, maps, and share printed articles and clips without having to spend money on copies. Featuring a solid weighted base and multi-jointed stand, the P2V brings an extra dimension to your presentation. In addition to showing printed notes and articles, the P2V can be used to show 3-dimensional objects at any angle - ideal for subjects like Science, Geometry, and Art classes. With its high-resolution 2.0-megapixel CMOS sensor and full autofocus lens, the P2V USB Camera delivers great image quality even when projected onto the big screen. With a Macro focus as close as 1.5" (5cm), you can zoom into the specific details you want to present. Coupled with the included snapshot software, you can snap images from the class and use them for study guides and tests, or incorporate into PowerPoint presentations. The P2V is a USB 2.0 Video Class (UVC) device, which means it is plug-and-play on Macs and Windows PCs (see System Requirements), and compatible with most video conferencing and web-casting softwares including Skype, Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger, iChat, Yahoo! Messenger, and AIM. System Requirements: Mac OS X 10.5 or higher Microsoft Windows 7, Vista or XP 1.4GHz CPU or higher (2.4GHz recommended) 512MB RAM (1GB recommended) 200MB free hard disk space

Full review here on my teaching blog. Suffice to say I use it daily.

Conclusions:

At under a tenth the cost of the AverVision it makes sense for budget strapped departments to think about one or two of these instead as the quality etc might not be as good but it is, as I have found, SUFFICIENT to achieve the same end results, especially if you use software to record things. I'm loving it and will use it regularly which lessens the pressure on demand for the departmental visualiser. I'm going to show it in use at the next IT session I lead along with an insight into QR Codes and Prezi.

Got this for my classroom after seeing it used with an ipad. Setup is very easy and resolution was as good or better than the ELMO document readers used at school. Also highly recommended for teachers sharing specific book pages or excerpts, anchor writing work, and images from an individual book. And those beetles on a screen or smartboard!

Could be five stars 27 July 2010

Image quality is excellent.
I was surprised by it's depth of field.
The stand works extremely well. I use cameras like this for imaging small parts or damaged components on circuit boards.
The autofocus has some issues with macro shots but nothing really significant. If it really doesn't like the image scene you can put a piece of printed paper over your target, let it focus, and then turn off the autofocus.
Major complaint: no video capture software. The camera can source good video. The software provided has a live mode so it is processing live video but will not save it. They also don't recommend any third party software(Video conference stuff but no simple video capture). I just checked their website and they not only didn't respond about this issue but pulled my query. They appear to only have completely positive reviews. That is not surprising but means that one can't trust the reviews posted to give an accurate picture.
So it's a great little still camera that could of...

Great little camera 23 Feb 2010

I use this very light, small camera to project the image of my Apple iPod touch when I am doing presentations. It works much better than a $400 document camera I had been using.
