I bought this thing to try and reduce the spaghetti on my desk, it would be a hardrive and hub and charger for my Ipad all in one.. or so I thought. In reality it will charge an ipad when linked with firewire but not sync with itunes, it will sync with itunes and not charge when connected with a usb???? what's the use of that. It's use as a hub is dependent on what day it is, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. the capacity guage doesn't work so even tho it's half full all 4 lights are still on (yes I've loaded the software). As a hardrive it looks nice under the imac and it hasn't failed... yet, and that's all I can say about it that's positive.
Oh and Iomega's website is awful, impossible to find any answers to anything and I can't find any direct way to contact anybody

Good New Company delivered with Amazons delivery service. Came in a sealed box.
The outer silver wrapper is THICK ALLOY / METAL :) goes well with the Macbook Pro and some iMacs Big Screens bases fits perfectly.
It works perfectly, I use a music studio , Firewire Out of My Mac Book Pro (using a NEET Screened cable) to my Firewire Sound card then the Firewire Daisy Chains to the Iomega Mac Companion (make sure each unit is pre powered) from there another Firewire out Daisy Chains to another FIrewire Seagate 500GB hard disc I use for Macs Time Machine so all backups are safely on another drive, all music files are on the Iomega as its a faster drive 7200rpm, it has 3 more USB ports, one on the right for iPad or Android just great, there is a slight hum when on a table in front of you but I've put it on a small flat sponge layer and its very quiet now, it sits under a laptop using a very similar grey metal laptop stand for £25 from Amazon just perfect!, its slightly wedge shaped not square. BUT No annoying blue LEDs! no you get softer white lights like the backlit on my mac book pro, very civilised. 3 year warranty on the box. No problems so far.

Don't buy this if you want a neat fit under your iMac 21.5. If you are not bothered about where you put the drive then it'll probably be great. But, look at google images for the Mac Companion. They show the drive sitting squarely and neatly on the metal foot of the support arm of the iMac. Look more closely - you'll see its not plugged into its power adapter or for example the firewire 800. When you do that, the drive does not fit neatly on that metal foot! In fact, if you are not prepared to force the plug and wires, but want them relaxed rather than stretched or bent tightly, the drive has to sit at least 5 cm forward of the metal foot. If you are prepared to put the drive elsewhere then it would be good. But if like me you want it to actually look as brilliant as the iMac and where all the web photos show it, it doesn't go there. If right angle power and right angle firewire plugs were supplied it might. Maybe if I had a nice 27 iMac it might!
I cannot comment on the operation of the drive as I've only plugged it in and had it far forwards - and decided not to actually use it for data, because of its poor physical fit. Just packaged it up for return. It is though, when spinning, far far quieter than my now old 'MyBook 160Gb'. If I get the refund, I'll look for a drive I can put under the desk.
MyMonster supplied the drive very quickly in excellent condition. Wouldn't fault them for that. However, they have not replied to email sent through the amazon system - even after giving them a couple of weeks more than the required working days. I've had to submit an A-Z claim.
Amazon are my web seller of choice as they have so far been faultlessly customer centred. My iMac is brilliant!
