Great if it lasts 22 Dec 2007
I bought one about 2 months ago, and it was working great. Really fast and sleek, and you can store large video files on it and view them directly off it. You can even install applications on it and run off it directly as if it were an internal hard drive. The speed is amazing.

It is also really light and portable, so I can carry it along when I bring my laptop out. I am using this on a PC with Win XP, but I can just plug it in to my friend's Macbook and all the files are immediately accessible, no setup required. Really convenient.

However there is one big set back, and that is that this drive (hardly 2 months old) is now broken! It started making weird clicking sound, and then one day it just failed to read. It has died and died along with some of my backup files. So if you are planning to use this as a backup drive, I would recommend you get another backup to backup this as well..

Though this product is still under warranty, the tech support at Iomega Europe is unresponsive. It has been more than a week and there's still no response to the ticket I've raised. There is also no information on their website regarding how to get the drive repaired/replaced.

I recently purchased a lap top from Dell and decided to go with a back up external hard drive at the same time. This was the model that Dell sent. As the lap top's hard drive by definition did not match the size of a desk top model the `back up' soon carried detail only held there.

It's certainly an elegant looking piece of kit and it was just a USB plug and go as far as the lap top was concerned. The problems started when I plugged it into my desk top. It would make a series of `beeps' and Windows would not immediately recognise it. After a number of reconnections through the USB port it would eventually appear on screen. However it was not unknown for it to lose connection during an operation.

The lap top connection continued to function normally but soon the dreaded `beep' began to appear here as well. Unfortunately it has now given up the ghost completely. We are told that hard drives are numerous for a reason and the whole reason for backing up stems from their failure rate but that does not address the frustration of seeing your detail lost.

Windows tells me it no longer recognises the item and suggests replacement as a remedy and I'm forced to agree. I have invested in a couple of Freecom Mob. Drive Classics 2.5 from Amazon and am starting again.

Would not buy 7 Aug 2008
By Annette
As per the previous reviewer, all was great for about 2 months. then it started making weird noises and shortly after it just failed to read my files. Very luckily, I had also backed everything up elsewhere but it still cost me lots of time sorting it out. I did not use this drive much before it gave up, approx 20 times in all.I did not take it out of the house so it certainly didnt get bumped around either.
