What a Con of a Manifesto,
By Andrew "For Peace and Freedom" (England, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Invitation to Join the Government of Britain: Conservative Manifesto 2010 (Hardcover)
Okay, I'm not going to start telling you how I am no fan of the coalition government or the Conservative Party.
The 2010 General Election was the first general election that I had taken part in and observed, so I decided to buy the Conservative Party's Manifesto as a bit of a souvenir of the party that I thought I supported at the time. When the Manifesto arrived it wasn't in "perfect" condition, although we can blame that on the Conservative Party's online shop. The first thing that you notice about the manifesto is that it is a nice size to read just about anywhere, and is attractively designed. I'm afraid that's where the positives end. The detail in the manifesto about their policies is very little - enough for a billboard or to quote on a blog. Nothing but pictures accompannied by clever marketing. I've re-read the Big Society page around half a dozen times and still have no idea what they're trying to sell. Charity? Already exists. More volunteers? They also already exist. Close-knitted communities? Well, Thatcher helped bring them down by most still stand across the United Kingdom. Their manifesto isn't worth the paper it's written on - and worse yet, the paper is too sharp to wipe your ass with!

The party should be proud of this easy to pick up, near coffee table style approach to outlining their plans for their government. How much weight it will carry now the Lib Dems are in town remains to be seen, but still interesting for some of the statistical breakdowns none the less.

Fantastic - a long overdue review of what Britain needs to get back to self reliability and self help instead of relying on state aid and interference in everything.
