Product Description

She's a fashion model who has everything: a boyfriend, a career, a loyal best friend. But when a sudden freeway "accident" leaves her disfigured and incapable of speech, she is transformed from the beautiful center of attention to an invisible monster, so hideous that no one will acknowledge she exists.

Enter Brandy Alexander, Queen Supreme, one operation away from becoming a real woman, who will teach her that reinventing yourself means erasing your past and making up something better - and that salvation hides in the last places you'll ever want to look.

When I picked this book up, I thought that it would be good. Chuck's work is usualy better than the median, but I was suprised by just how good it was. Without giving away any of the plot details, this book focus' upon the modern day obsessions with beauty and fashion, its origins and consequences, it is the picture of a person trapped by these obsessions and desperate to escape. The book takes you on a merry go round ride switching between past and present constantly keeping you guessing as to what will happen next as the protagonist attempts to make sense of her life. Mid way through I thought I had this story by the tail, but found that I was very wrong.
A strong book from a strong author.
Be warned Invisible Monsters is not for the faint haearted.

I read my first Palahniuk book at the beginning of the year and have read several others since. Admittedly I set the bar quite high starting with Fight Club, but have found something to love in every book of his since. Invisible Monsters is another dive-bomb into interesting characters and storylines, combining to make an interesting and fun read. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book as starting point for new Palahniuk readers, although it is a great example of his style and characterisation. Well worth a read if you want a bit of an eye-opener.

Grotesque, horrible, tragic, brilliant.

If you like that shudder you feel when you know your completely out of your comfort zone then this is the book for you.

Best book I've ever read?
My favourite Palahniuk, with all his style and flair. Possibly my favorite novel of all time. Certainly up there with the best American literature. Read more

Chuck's best book?
Chuck Palahniuk's books are a mixed bunch. While I absolutely loved Fight Club, Survivor and Haunted, I didn't much care for Choke, Tell All or Diary. Read more

To be honest, first I didn't think that this book would be enjoyable to read. It starts quite confusing, which seems to be one of Chuck Palahniuk favourite things to do. Read more

Twisty
I found the introduction incredibly difficult to get into as it reminded me a little of Bret Eason Ellis's American Psycho. But after the first chapter it improved markedly. Read more

I found this book completely underwhelming after the seminal fightclub. Maybe I was expecting too much from it. Read more

Amazing!
Okay, so first I saw Fight club, then I read Fight club and was so stunned by the genius, the plot twists and the sarcastic/cynical writing style. Read more

Amazing!
I adore this book. It's one of my ultimate favourites.

The whole idea of it is brilliant. It's typical Chuck Palahniuk - it's a warped logical but it works. Read more
