Drama based on a true story. Vince Papale (Mark Wahlberg) is an ordinary guy who, against extraordinary odds, gets a one-in-a-gazillion shot at living every sports fan's wildest fantasy. Like the city he lives in and his beloved hometown NFL team, the down-and-out Vince has seen better days. But then the Philadelphia Eagles' new coach Dick Vermeil (Greg Kinnear) calls an unprecedented open tryout, and the 30-year-old bartender who never played college ball makes the cut. Now Vince needs every bit of his gritty, never-say-die attitude and enormous heart to survive in the high-stakes world of professional football.

It's 1974, and the men in Vince Papale (Mark Wahlberg)'s neighborhood are having a tough time. They're either laid off like him or on strike. They do still have each other, though. They love their backlot football games, meeting at the tavern, and cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles, who have also had a lot of bad luck. A new coach (Greg Kinnear) comes to the Eagles and holds an open try-out. Anyone can come down and try for a place on the team. His pals urge 30-year old Vince to go, and the rest, as they say, is history.

I'm not much of a football fan, but I did like this movie. It's a Disney movie so there's nothing off-color, and it's all about trying your best, sticking together, and having a good heart. The cast is excellent and the script really held my interest. There is a lot of hard-hitting (American) football action that should please fans. I liked that we got to know and care about Vince and his friends and their gritty neighbourhood seemed real. A very muddy football game filmed in slow-motion is especially good. Not only is this a good story, it's a true story, with a winning combination of action and emotion.

I love this film, as I have watched it a few times on the TV and UK DVD. I ordered the Blu-Ray & DVD set from Moviemars - USA. The Item is described in the Amazon UK advert as (All Regions Format). So I ordered my favourite film, to play on my (UK Region B) blu-ray player.

When the Blu-Ray set arrived, I discovered that the Blu-ray Disc is region A, and the DVD is region 1. I was not too bothered with regard the DVD, as most USA imported DVD's are usually region 1 playable, and I already owned the UK region 2 DVD. I wanted the high definition Blu-Ray version of the film. Unfortunately when I told the seller that the item sent was not as described, they were not bothered and simply told me to return the item to the USA. It costs about £9.50 Royal Mail Air-sure, to return the item to the states, if you require tracking, and £4.50 without tracking.

So I complained to Amazon, about the seller and the advert, and as per usual their Amazon customer service is excellent, and they sorted out my problem very quickly.

So I only did this review to let other potential region B buyers, to be aware that it will not play on region B players.

With regard the film, as stated I think it is a great family film, which you will want to watch over & over again.

I would have given the film 5 Stars if it was an (All regions disc)

A 5 star film, Thanks

A typical feel-good Hollywood movie that's been done before so many times. Amazingly, that doesn't take much away from this production as it achieves its task of providing entertainment. It's a good stay at home movie for a relaxing night at home.

Mark Wahlberg plays Vince Papale who has recently lost his wife because 'he'll never go anywhere in life' as well as his job. During a time when life is hard among his friends and family the one thing that brings them all joy is watching their beloved Phili Eagles football team play. When the new coach starts open tryouts Vince is talked into going only to be picked for further training.

Thus begins the journey of a lifetime for Vince Papale. Incase you're rolling your eyes thinking 'same old story' take heart in the fact that this one is actually TRUE!!

Mark Wahlberg is on fine form in this likeable true story / sports movie about a bartender who got the opportunity to play for the Philadelphia Eagles. It's not overly cheesy like many sports movies and tries to play out more like Rocky than say Varsity Blues. So don't expect loads of pranks etc from the players, look more for a tale of one man struggling to fulfil his dreams and you won't be disappointed.
The closing credits even contains some actual footage of the real Vince Papale and the key game moments featured within the film.

Be aware that the 'US Disney’ BLU RAY of “Invincible” is REGION-A LOCKED - so it WILL NOT PLAY on most UK Blu Ray players unless they're chipped to play 'all' regions (which the vast majority aren't). Don’t confuse BLU RAY players that have multi-region capability on the 'DVD' front – that won’t help.

Nice cast and a great movie - but as of March 2014 - no sign of it on BLU RAY on this side of the pond just yet …

A disney production of a "true story", a very much a "Rocky Balboa" story for american football. So if you like sport and like rocky films you will probably like this although like myself might be left a bit dissapointed that there isn't enough coverage of actual game time and definately not enough heavy hits which the trailer would lead you to believe.

Set in the mid 1970's, 30 something bartender Vince Papale (Wahlberg) takes the leap from backyard knockabout American Football with his neighborhood friends, to try out's with a desperate Philadelphia Eagles team that's looking for a catalyst to get them back on winning terms. Is he that spark of character they have been waiting for ?

Based on a true Story, Invincible follows Vince on & off the grid iron as he struggles with his personal life & attempt to go from Eagles fan to Eagles player against all odds with plenty of support from his friends & family, as well as people wanting to see him fail. The Football is mostly set around the training field practice, but in the few full match scenes the movie really nails the down at field level atmosphere both visually & audibly with great immersion. Along with the backroom banter & an insight into how cutthroat maintaining a job as a professional sports player or coach really is, regardless of your knowledge of Football or not. The Football comes in equal measure to the other sub plots to keep you engaged, so alongside Vince's struggle to making the cut as a Football player & being accepted by the professionals, they're is romance, family turmoil & being a beacon of hope for the entire populace of Philadelphia in a time of economic down turn. The music & noise level (in the bar/stands) did drown out the actors a little at times.

Mark Walhberg (Lone Survivor) was good in the lead role, he had to be a little sombre at times with dialogue to a minimum due to the setting Director/Cinematographer Ericson Core had chosen, but making the most of it in his own style.
