You can compare "Investments" by Bodie et al. to Brealy and Myers' corporate finance book. The writing is very good and the economical intuition shines through. The math is easy and they use more words, which is good for beginners. If you already know some finance, the book "Modern Portfolio Theory and Investment Analysis" by Elton and Gruber would be more challanging.
