If you like 2008 - beware of 2010 20 July 2010

Having had no problems with Premier 2008 I thought that the advertised enhancements in 2010 may make the whole process easier. Having bought 2010 I am very disapointed.

1 - Do not buy it yet if your templates show delivery note numbers on invoices - it prints the VAT number instead. Just been on the phone with Support and they admit there is a programming problem they are working on, so why the beta testers did not notice I shall never know!

2 - If you thought it would batch process emails and combine multiple invoices to an individual customer into one email then it does not, it works the same as 2008 so you have to print to pdf and combine them yourself or bombard customers with mutiple invoices which is not customer friendly.

I have found nothing in 2010 which is an improvement on 2008 unless you want multiple currencies which I do not.

Personally, I wish I had stuck with 2008

I have Windows 7 and this was meant to work on it. It does not. I cannot go online with it, take part in the live community for help and feedback nor does the program in general work - I get multiple script errors and it refuses to do certain tasks. I tried running it in compatibility mode for XP which did not improve it, and Vista mode also did not improve (slightly more errors in fact than for xp mode, it would not even create a company file).

I asked someone using the same internet connection but who had an XP computer if I could install it briefly on theirs, and it worked perfectly including the connecting to the online community to rule out firewall or other internet issues which were half of the errors I was getting (the other half were the script errors which seemed to occur at random while running the software.

I then googled the forums for quickbooks and found I was not the only one who was having these issues; the script errors and the in ability to connect to the live community/tutorials was experienced by at least 2 other individuals.

I updated all the quicktime in the first instance, as it was stated that was the main reason for issues with running the software by the company on their site, which made zero difference, and was not required by the XP computer to run it perfectly.

I am disgusted by the manufacturers claim that quickbooks premier for accountant 2010 version has the ability to run on Windows 7 as the errors were numerous and the fact that others reported similar issues means this is not something specific to my setup. My computer was bought with Windows 7 as the Dell installed OS and runs perfectly.

I am sure the software works fine for XP from what I saw, but as I was not able to use it on my operating system which was Windows 7 I think this review is as comprehensive as it can get as the software was meant to work on Windows 7 and didn't and I do not have the use of an XP computer other than a quick borrow of it to check the software on it and there was little point in spending a lot of time setting it up with my data if I would not be able to use it myself regularly on my own computer as I had hoped to use this to help budget and plan my finances.

Very disappointing.

All you need accountancy-wise if you have a small company 18 Aug 2011

Now, I've never used the previous versions of QuickBooks so I'm not sure how this newest one compares with them, but I'm thoroughly satisfied with it. Basically, it does the job of an accountant hired in a small company, so if you don't feel like hiring one, you can use QuickBooks instead. It will save you lots of time and money and you shouldn't experience any major problems using it.
