Product Description

Review

A good, solid and very readable exposition of the subject that will appeal to both students and specialists. --Professor Artur Ekert, University of Oxford

This is an ambitious book aimed to provide an introduction to both the revolutionary theories of the twentieth century, quantum mechanics and special relativity, beginning from a historical perspective but advancing to topics of recent interest such as entanglement and quantum computing.
--Professor Tom Kibble, Imperial College London

Product Description

This book is based on the lecture courses taught by Dunningham and Vedral at the University of Leeds. The book contains all the necessary material for quantum physics and relativity in the first two years of a typical physics degree course. The choice of topics complies fully with the Institute of Physics guidelines, but the coverage also includes more interesting and up-to-date applications, such as Bose condensation and global positioning system (GPS).

Clear and engaging 7 July 2011
Format:Paperback
This is a really excellent book that I would whole-heartedly recommend to anyone looking for an introduction to quantum mechanics and relativity. It is written in an engaging style. Not only are concepts explained clearly and concisely but they are peppered with historical anecdotes and interesting diversions. The footnotes in particular are a joy to read. Another big bonus is that there are many problems along with full worked solutions. This book not only treats the subjects of quantum mechanics and relativity well, but goes on to show how they can be combined leading to field theory and the hot research topic of quantum information. All in all, a great read.
