This is a brilliant book, especially for student nurses. I had to do an intergrated critique of a qualitative and quantitative research article, and of all the books that were recommended to me, this was my bibile. it had all the answers to my questions and was generally brilliant! would highly recommend it to anyone!

I am not a midwife but a Student Nurse (adult branch) and this new edition has been fantastic. It has helped me to understand the research process and has greatly assisted my critique assignment. The chapters are well laid out and the language Colin uses is user friendly. The glossary of terms is excellent. This book will also help me for my final year's dissitation and beyond. I highly recommend this new edition, well worth the money, a very good buy.

this is a really good book for 2nd year midwifery degree students. It is written in an easily accessible way and clarifies 'jargon' used in research. It contains a big glossary which saves trawling through dictionaries ,and is relevant to medical research instead of general definitions.A well worth book to own

I would not be without this book for assignments and particularly it was particularly useful for writing my dissertation. Good explanations of research methods and an excellent glossary of terminology.

I did my nurse and midwifery training during late 70s and early 80s - an era when evidence based practice was on the starting blocks. Doing my DPSM some years later and recently finishing a BSc, this book has been very helpful especially in those early days of study. It has been a fantastic resource at every level and invaluable with concise, easy to follow chapters. It is perfect for midwifery profession with examples from midwifery practice making it more user friendly! Clear glossary very useful too.

If you need to understand research for midwifery in an easy to read format, I would definitely recommend this book. If you have research books for other subjects however, I would save your bursary/student loan, as they probably work just as well. A nice buy if you're a student midwife and it is the first time you've needed such a book.
