Product Description

Product Description

Introduction to Research Methods and Data Analysis in Psychology 2e presents quantitative and qualitative research methods and the most widely used techniques for collecting and analysing data.  It provides clear and accessible coverage to equip the reader with an understanding of the research process and the practical skills they need to collect and analyse data.  This second edition has been thoroughly revised and updated to include a number of new chapters and additional topics such as e-research, mixed methods, and R (a statistical software package).  Detailed information is provided on experimental design and statistical analysis by hand and using SPSS v. 16.0.  Expanded coverage of a range of areas including literature reviewing, the statistical techniques of ANOVA and MANOVA, and psychometrics is also provided.

The text assumes that the reader has no previous knowledge of research methods or psychology and is therefore essential reading for undergraduate psychology students plus highly recommended for students on other social and health science courses.

From the Back Cover

“The only research textbook most students will ever need. An exciting blend of quantitative and qualitative research methods guidance, which is strong on the practicalities of actually doing research, and is also nicely modern in its coverage. The accompanying website is a valuable supplementary resource for students and lecturers.”
Dr John Hegarty, Department of Psychology, Keele University

Format:Paperback
The authors went to some extra trouble to think intuitively about how someone would actually conduct research. In this second edition of the book, they've not only included case studies and descriptions but also included templates and 'how-to' advice for taking advantage of all the resources out there (apparently a new article on psychology is published every 15 minutes!). The book is also well written and has a modern feel. There is an accompanying website which isn't as good - it does have useful resources, but I immediately couldn't find one of the templates as promised in the book. I'm not rating the website here so the book gets 5 stars.
