Product Description

Review

Yoseph Imry's Introduction to Mesoscopic Physics is a propitious beginning for Oxford University Press's series Mesoscopic Physics and Nanotechnology... Imry, who is one of the central figures in the development of this field, provides in this text a valuable overview of these new physical phenomena... Imry takes pains to identify issues that have engendered controversy... He then explains the resolution of this controversy by more careful specification of the problem... this interesting and relatively brief new book brings the reader into contact with some exciting developments in a very active area of condensed matter physics. It provides a ready reference to the main themes and results and belongs on the desks of all workers in this field. (Physics Today January 1998 ) --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Review

"For researchers and graduate students in physics, chemistry, and electronic and optical engineering, Imry (physics, Weizmann Institute, Israel) explains concepts and tools to investigate systems that fall between the molecular and the bulk--generally a cluster of molecules that acts in many ways like a large molecule but has certain qualities unique to the size range. In particular he shows how the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics and statistical physics appear, and are amenable, to theoretical clarification and experimental examination in mesoscopic systems."--SciTech Book News

Mesoscopic jargong 7 May 2000
By Hanno Essen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you need the vocabulary, the names, and the important references in the field of mesoscopic physics this is the book for you. If you want physical insight and understanding you must look elsewhere (god knows where?). All derivations start with some random non-fundamental formula and ends in another. Clarity and coherence seem far away.

A terrible book 9 July 2004
By Ben Lou - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book is definitely not written for grad students or anyone who is just interested in the field and wants to get an general idea of it. I'm sure the author could make the book little easier to read, but it seems he just did not want it that way.

Good Work!! 11 Jan 2009
By Shiv Akarsh Meka - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Contrary to what the others said, I found the book complete. I was reading the process of 'Dephasing in semiconductors' and it was thoroughly described. But by no means, it serves as an introductory text (as the title says). You need to be an advanced reader already having enough experience with quantum transport.
