Don't let the glossy modern looking cover fool you as it did me. This book reads like the lecture notes of an eccentric professor which have been bound together and packaged with a modern cover to attract buyers. The presentation is awful, no colour and no variation - more or less all the text is the same font and size - page after page. When I bought this book, many of my fellow actuarial students bought it also, as it was on recommended reading lists. It is supposed to give a clear grounding in fundamentals for the first few actuarial exams (mainly CT1 for the UK exams), but in my view it certainly will not make things clear. It's style is that of textbooks written over 20 years ago with a low priority given to explaining the subject material clearly. Overpriced - you would be better off just buying ACTED notes for CT1 if you are looking to use it for actuarial exams, even though these are more expensive they are a better investment in my view.
