The book is very informative and the author knowledgable. Covers pretty much every aspect of keeping cattle, for beginners like me it is a must have book.
I couldn't put this one down until I had finished it!

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent and useful guide for beginners 29 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I would highly recommend this book to smallholders as it gives a good overview of the options and breeds and how to look after them. Nothing on TB, so not 5*, but got all that info from the DEFRA rep when he came to fill in the endless paperwork!

3.0 out of 5 stars not enough answers for a beginner 5 Aug 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this as the proud new owner of 2 Dexters with calves at foot. It is well written and easy to understand but I have found that it does not answer specific questions like how much to feed in winter and the detail of what to expect with calving, before, during and after. What I have learned from this book is primarily to keep a good eye on the beasts and do what you think is right so they look right. I can see the point of this but not a good confidence giver for a complete beginner.
