This book was supplied at my recent NEBOSH general certificate course and was invaluable in passing said course.
However its use beyond that has also been invaluable, it gives good clear information on most Health and Safety issues to be found in a manufacturing unit. It is not over complicated by legalise, is written in plan English and has a user-friendly index. If I had a criticism it would be that sometimes a subject is spread through out the book but not sure if you can avoid that.

Format: Paperback
Although this Third Edition is a relatively recent (Sep 2007) and comprehensive study guide that covers the course syllabus and content, Health and Safety regulations are frequently being amended and new experiences or principles being implemented.
With this in mind, I contacted the Publishing company (Elsevier Butterworth-Heinemann - 01865 474010) and they have confirmed that the updated Fourth Edition is due to be released in June 2009, priced at £44.99 (ISBN: 9781856176682)

BUT, if you are going to sit the exams on 5th & 12th of June 2009, I would say this book would still be a worth while purchase though...

I bought this book to help with the development of a safety management system. I am a quality manager with no background in safety and found this book to be immensely helpful. The contents are well-structured, the text is very clear and easy to read, and it manages to make the impenetrable subject of safety legislation seem fairly straightforward - no mean feat. It incorporates techniques and checklists which can be used almost straight from the book. My husband is a safety manager and also finds it useful. In summary, an excellent book both for those starting out in safety and for professionals needing a reference book.

A more practical guide on how H+S is applied in the work place. Lots of information and examples are presented and discussed in the text. This book will be very useful for anyone who needs to know about how H+S is applied in the work place and some of the do's and don'ts.
The writing style is accurate and everything is easy to understand and apply.
Overall a useful book for managers needing to know about the in's and out's of H+S practice or students studying this for a degree or professional exams.
