So Good, It Burns. 8 Dec 2011
By Andrew Kerr TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Firstly don't be fooled by the word introduction in the books title, as this text is in fact very comprehensive and very heavy. It is not a book for the general public but has been written for those within the fire safety, engineering, physics or another similar line of work.

It is for those who require it, a brilliantly written and very well structured book containing a wealth of facts, tables, diagrams, and well pretty much anything and everything you could possibly want to know about fire safety. As I've mentioned this is not an introduction as such as those new to the field will be totally lost, even myself with solid grounding in chemistry was left lost at times.

In summary if you require it, then "An Introduction to Fire Dynamics" is a excellent one stop resource. Its been awarded only four stars based on the slightly misleading title and the fact that it is a topic specific volume and as such it's appeal to the general market is somewhat limited.

By Mr. Philip Harkins TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
This book goes in my opinion way beyond being an 'introduction' as stated, in fact it seems to be aimed at people who are already experts in their field, and need a reference book to refer too, with complex tables, exercises and reference points and is used as a coursework book by the world famous Edinburgh University and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
If you need this book then you will no doubt have it on a recommended reading list; if your after a general book on fire safety, ignition points and combustion charts then perhaps check before you buy it that this book is what you need as it is a book written by professionals for professionals.

i'm a student 10 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback
It is good that it covers a huge body of knowledge in one book but i have too say that it seems better as a reference for the practising fire engineer rather than a book for a student. Personally i find it quite hard to understand and feel that the expalantions are only appropriate for someone with decent knowledge of the subject. I prefer engineering books like spon's 'Craig's soil mechanics' and 'Hydraulics in civil and environmental engineering' for their comprehensiveness and accessible style, but i do not know of an equivalent in fire dynamics.

Don't be fooled by the phrase `an introduction' in the title of this text. Introduction in another context is often synonymous with starting at a beginner level. Read more
