I used this book extensively in writing my Ph.D. thesis introductory chapters on deformation theory. Good clear diagrams helped in reminding me of the long forgotten dislocation theories of my undergraduate studies. It is perfect as an introductory source, small, handy and uncluttered by the large volume of literature on dislocation theory that could have been included. When looking for a particular topic I found that I ended up reading almost the entire book due to the ease in back tracking through the logical sequence of the chapters. Although meant as an introductory text, I have found that it is also an excellent reference source.

Very good elementary representations of dislocation theory.

Much better and easier to understand than the many other classical dislocation theory books. It is also very comprehensive, although a little outdated due to its publication date.

This is an excellent introductory text on dislocation theory. The author does a good job of outlining fundamental materials principles before jumping into defects. The diagrams and images used are top-notch -- if only one could capture such good examples in practice! The latter half of the text covers some information on other types of defects (tilt boundaries, stacking faults) as well as numerous characterization techniques. Recommended!
An excellent introduction to dislocations

I bought this book to learn more about the subject of dislocations. I've never taken any course in dislocaitons, but i found this book (at least the first four chapters) relatively simple to read and understand. This book provides a good entry-level introduction to dislocations. It is recommended as a first read if you do not have previous background in dislocations.
