Although the translation of this book from French is not perfect, this book is a wonderful tool for anyone who is serious about their spiritual life. St. Francis de Sales addresses the reader as "my child" which makes the reader feel his fatherly love and concern for one's soul and salvation. It is a humbling work as it reminds us that we are not perfect and that growing in virtue is an on-going process and requires discipline,
commitment and a constant examination of conscience. I like the fact that it contains many chapters dealing with all kinds of topics, from Holy Communion to sin, confession, the married life, and others - which enables the reader to pick a chapter at random and read it without having to read the book in the proper order, from beginning to end. Several priests on EWTN have recommended this book. It is a classic for the "beginners" in the spiritual life, as well as the more spiritually mature christians.
