Product Description

Product Description

The Third Edition of the hugely successful Introduction to Cosmology provides a concise, authoritative study of cosmology at an introductory level. Starting from elementary principles and the history of cosmology, the text carefully guides the student on to curved spacetimes, general relativity, black holes, cosmological models, particles and symmetries, and phase transitions.

Extensively revised, this latest edition includes broader and updated coverage of distance measures, gravitational lensing and waves, dark energy and quintessence, the thermal history of the Universe, inflation, large scale structure formation, and the ‘cosmological coincidence’problem.

  • Illustrated throughout and comprehensively referenced with problems at the end of each chapter.
  • Includes more material on observational astrophysics and expanded sections on astrophysical phenomena.
  • Latest observational results from the WMAP satellite and the 2 degree Field Galaxy Redshift Survey.

Excellent Book! 22 April 1999
By almraja@earthlink.net - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
If you are looking for a way to teach yourself the basics of Cosmology fast and with ease, I highly recommend it. The book covers many topics and take you step by step into the fundemental concepts of Cosmology. The only thing that I have against it is that it is too expensive for a 238-page and soft-cover book. I guess it is worth buying if you do not have another choice.

Will test the limits of your mind 24 Nov 2007
By Marten - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is delightful reading - logical and challenging at the same time. Some will read it only for the text, conveniently skipping past the formulas. Some will go all in with partial differential equations and the works. It's not a book for the casual cosmologist - it is one for the reader who enjoys an intellectual challenge. What's remarkable is that the text is logical, complete and intriguing throughout. Even when the mathematics is beyond your conception, the text will keep you on the course.
