`This book is well written, with a flowing narrative. It provides an excellent coverage of methods and theories in developmental psychology, and covers the important areas of developmental psychology in a well informed way' -

As a student studying studying education, this book was really helpful to me, its really nice and easy to read, and there is a great index thats really helpful if you just need to know about one specific area of development. This book goes into great detail about the early stages of a childs development, and its written in a very simplistic manner, and well presented making it very accessible. The only problem with the book i found is that the author only really talks about the developemt of children up to the ages of about 5/6, so if at any time you are working with children in Key Stage 2 (7-11), its not awfully helpful. Apart from that i would highly reccomend this book for anyone going on to an education studies course or child psychology.

I bought the book in the hope of improving the understanding of my baby daughter's development. I would say that the book offers what its title suggests - an introduction to the different aspects of a child's development. It offers a summary of the important theories relevant to each aspect and provides updated data and conclusions from recent research studies as well.
It reminds me of the textbooks I read during university days. The author explains theories, concepts and ideas well, making it easy to read through quickly and obtain a good overview. The chapters are well organised. Suitable headings and subheadings also simplify the search for specific information.

A good introduction to child development, written in a scholarly, but accessible way and very comprehensive.
It's layout makes it great for dipping into.
