As an art teacher I wanted a book on batik which would be an aid to explaining the batik process to my students and this book is ideal for that.
The book starts by expanding on uses for batik fabric, then sources for design ideas but I found the most useful part to be the chapter on equipment and materials which clearly explains the use of different tools with simple diagrams.
There is a section which guides you through the basic process and then step by step instructions for projects which become increasingly challenging further on in the book.
The only thing that I could find fault with is that some garments which it guides you through making look out dated now but if you are after an easy to follow introductory guide to batik this book is perfect for you!

Not deep enough or broad enough 20 Feb 2003
By Beth - Published on Amazon.com

I recieved this book as part of a start up kit on batik. The billing on the book was that it was a good how-to on the batik process. I found it to be remarkably lacking. There was no advice as to how to deal with the more common problems mentioned in the process, and the process, itself was extremely lacking. There were a lot of pretty pictures of batik work from a modern standpoint - but they did not fit in well with the subject matter and seemed more like a "look what I did". There were very few pictures, for example, of the various steps of the process while the artist was in action.

I suppose at this low cost, you get what you pay for.
