A lovely selection of tracks from Strangetude to Paper Monkeys, this is a good starter for any Ozrics fan, boring old die hards like me only need it to complete the set, already having everything on this on the many discs currently available as re-issues. Nice to hear 'em in a different order though. If you are new to the Ozric sound brace yourself, this is gonna be a great trip. If you already know the Ozric sound you already know its gonna be a great trip. Treat your ears with this reasonably priced collection of pure Ozric gold. If you like this CD, see 'em live for a total blast!

This collection is over Two CDs in length and moves in chronological order. From the earliest cassette release, entitled 'Erpsongs.' All the way to their current 2013 album, entitled 'Paper Monkeys.' The short samples on the Amazon website make the music quite hard to judge . But you will find some beautifully crafted music in the Ozric Tentacle's world, Should you decide to buy this album? I believe the album serves as a good introduction to the 'Ozric Tentacles'. As it is reasonably priced and diverse in song choices. Each of the instrumental pieces serves gracefully, as an exploratory and mysterious journey in sound;Their layering is often dense but always tasteful.Often allowing space to permeate the listener's ears, rather than moving through common chord changes. For example, you may find the music to move through different moods and textures,Where a variety of scales and melodies are created and allowed to develop gradually.
There are timeless qualities to each song. And Character that is playful and sometimes flamboyant. and on a few occasions rather humorous.

The Best Way To Oz 5 Aug. 2013
By Uncle E - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The fellow who gave this a 3 star review will, if he keeps at it, recant his rating and add the other 2 stars eventually. This band has an incredibly daunting discography to get into and this sampler is just the right thing. Spacey with a hint of early 90s electronica, ambient soundscapes, excellent musicianship, and...oh, did I neglect to mention they're all instrumentals? Good stuff. Dive in, and pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

Instrumental heaven 3 Feb. 2014

Double cd of great tracks.
Ozric tentacles is instrumental genius.
Space music that more people should listen to, great background music for anything.
I built a house listening to nothing except the Ozric Tentacles, it made the work less difficult
and helped the time pass pleasantly. Great energy.

Good collection from a band I'm learning to appreciate 21 May 2013
By Richard Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
For years, people have been telling me I should listen to this band. "Oh, you like Zappa and Hawkwind? Then you should LOVE Ozric Tentacles!" I listened to two albums (JURASSIC SHIFT and ERPLAND), and was unimpressed. There was obviously a lot of technical skill, but not much meaningful composition. I didn't hear any melodies that stuck in my head or anything that hit me on an emotional level. Just a bunch of synth noodling, followed by guitar noodling, then more synth noodling.

So when I saw this album, which looked like a "best of" collection, I decided to give it a try. And guess what? I like it. It still doesn't have me humming along, but I'm starting to appreciate it for what it is - an electronic/jam band version of jazz fusion. It's not overly melodic. But there are some nice riffs in some songs (KICK MUCK for example). Some songs are all about atmosphere and texture. This is where the band excels. When they decide to create a specific vibe (say, reggae or Middle Eastern music) they nail it. Plus there are some adventurous synth sounds that add a lot of interest.

If you approach this collection with an open mind and no preconceived notions, you may like it.
