About the Author

R.L. Trask was a professor of Linguistics at the University of Sussex. A hugely acclaimed specialist in historical linguistics, his work on the Basque language made him among the world's foremost authorities on the subject. He died in 2004. Bill Mayblin trained as a graphic designer at the Royal College of Art in London. He is also the illustrator for Introducing Logic, Derrida and Empiricism.

Very interesting subject!. The book does a good job explaining the key areas. Some interesting chapters on how some languages share a lot in common. Also a few pages are set aside for explaining Chomsky's theories. Some interesting pages on word order and there was also some fascinating pages on sexism in language.

this product is a good but long read . providing you with more history of linguistics then the subject itself I suggest anyone who has little patience not to invest in this book . However I did learn a lot .
