If you live in an old house in Wales, you'll probably enjoy this fascinating book, which celebrates, very readably, this land's traditional architecture. The book owes it's slightly long-winded and plagiaristic title to an earlier, fuller book: Peter Smith's Houses of the Welsh Countryside, first published in 1975 but now out of print (although accessible in libraries). It updates that work, and Iorwerth Peate's earlier classic from 1940. This latest contribution to the architectural record also complements the S4C series Cartrefi Cefn Gwlad Cwmri.
An evocative and affectionate celebration of the surprisingly varied architecture of such a small country, this bi-lingual book really appealed to this owner of a croglofft cottage near Lampeter. I loved it, as I do my house. Suggett and Stevensons' book should inspire a new interest or feed (as in my case) a pre-existing passion.
Introducing Houses (etc) tells you about croglofft cottages, by the way.
