Review

Reviews of the first edition:; The aim of the book is to emphasize important principles without the use of exclusive detail, and Price has succeeded admirably in doing so. The book can be highly recommended. Geology Today; The presentation of material in the book makes reading easy. The illustrations are of high quality and all complement the text admirably. Technical terms are ... explained, and there is a useful index. This book will be valuable as a quick, high quality read to undergraduates of geology and engineering. Any professional needing an aid in communication with the public or lay administrators will find it useful. I recommend it highly. - Geological Journal; Michael Price's new book ... is a lesson in expressive and informative writing that we would all do well to heed - Geoscience, Canada; The amount of basic information included in such an introductory book is impressive - Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology

Reccommended to me as part of my university course - and was actually useful! Very easy to read and the chapters appear in a logical order so you can read from the front to the back and know whats going on.
The pictures are relevant and easy to understand and reference to the text.
The explanations given in the book, though not overtly complex, were detailed enough to write a good basic essay with a few points expanded on in detail. My only criticism is that there was perhaps not enough content on the actual chemistry of groundwater and what there was, was very simple.

This book provides a solid introduction to groundwater hydrology. It is written in a way that is very simple to read, while conveying across important information. I would suggest that this is not the most informative of books, and for seasoned hydrologists you may want to look into something more detailed, for new comers to the subject it is a good start. It covers some of the fundamentals (such as Darcy's law) and towards the end of the book gives references to sites across the UK (such as aquifers).
