As a trainee clinical psychologist, I found this book well-written, interesting and coherently argued. The technical terms are well-explained and the rationale for putting the different techniques in place is clear.

Excellent 29 Jan 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I found this book to be incredibly useful in helping me to assess, formulate and to a lesser extent to also intervene with complex clinical cases. This book spells out an integrative treatment approach that combines cognitive behavioural therapy and object relations (plus some other ideas) in to something quite distinct. A lot of prior applied psychological knowledge is assumed and so the book is definitely not for the non-specialised reader. If you are not a mental health professional, I would recommend 'Change for the Better' by Elizabeth Wilde McCormick instead, as that book is written for a general audience.

Not for the layman. 9 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback
A psychologist recommended I read up on CAT in connection with my work training police negotiators. I assumed the title "Introduction" would suggest an easy-to-read work. It isn't! Too much psychobabble, and a presumption that readers already have a sound understanding of underlying theories to help explain the book's message. Probably useful for the professional analyst, but far too technical for the man or woman in the street.
