I bought this book so I would not have to pay for the Level 1 course in Astronomy. It starts at a very basic level (suggesting, for example, that it will introduce a new way to write lots of zeros in a number in the second chapter).
It also keeps referring to "IC", which I clearly don't have, with no reference to what "IC" is. Example: "If you look at plate 3 in IC, you will clearly see a pinkish hue".
Apart from this, it does, so far, look like a good introduction to astronomy, which is, after all, what it is supposed to be. So no qualms with the book, but I think it would be enhanced by doing the actual course and having all materials on hand. Consider this before purchasing it on its own.
