It's been two years since Steve Thorne's Emotional Creatures Pt 2 was released and apparently Into The Ether has suffered from many frustating delays - but it has definitely been worth the wait. Those who enjoyed Steve's previous two releases will find this to their liking but this really does deserve a wider audience. The album is graced with appearances from some well known musicians from the current progressive rock world such as John Mitchell (Arena, It Bites) Nick D'Virgillo (Spock's Beard), Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree)and many others. Despite the line-up this album is not overtley progressive rather a collection of a set of well crafted songs from an excellent singer/songwriter with some prog elements. Current favourite tracks of mine include Feathers, Granite Man and Sons of Tomorrow, although there is not really a bad track on the album. Well worth 5 stars.

Fantastically Good! 12 Mar 2010
By David Lusher TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
I came across this album by chance, attracted by the well-known prog rock musicians who are involved. I listened to it through once and I was stunned - this music is fantastic! Steve Thorne is a real talent; great playing, superb vocals and really good songs (I particularly like 'Feathers' and 'Granite Man'). I love it when I'm surprised like this and I'm happy to pass on this recommendation. 'Into The Ether' is a quality album - you won't be disappointed.

Unbiased Opinion. 2 Jan 2011
Format:Audio CD
OK. So I hate to rain on parades but I'm afraid I'm gonna crash this party. I've been listening to a ton of new music recently in an effort find some semblance of good music, as the amount of rubbish around in the mainstream just now is becoming unbearable (or I'm just getting old!)
A friend of mine switched me on to Jem Godfrey and Frost*, IQ, Big Big Train, Neal Morse, Parzivals Eye and Transatlantic, to name just a few. It's been expensive updating my music collection, but fulfilling!
I'm afraid this album just does not cut it for me. The first three tracks are very promising. Kings of Sin is especially good, but after that it just sinks into mediocrity. Listen to the difference between something like the Underfall Yard by Big Big Train or Whirlwind by Transatlantic and you'll get a clear idea of the difference. This album is flat for far too long compared with the likes of say, Whirlwind, which just soars melodically in so many places. Don't get me wrong, this guy plays well and sings well but it just doesn't reach the heights of some of the other albums I've listened to in the same genre. But I do recommend you judge for yourself. This is after all, just my opinion!
