Format: Hardcover
This is a super book - Kate Adie writes in an engaging manner and has chosen a range of interesting subjects connected by the theme of dangerous work. Her approach is to lay out the reasons that motivated each person she talks to - these are presented in a non-judgemental manner that makes the book all the more thought provoking. Considering that among her chapters there are disucssions on prostitution, terrorism and armed robbery, this is quite an achievement, as it would have been very easy to have written a villification of these roles. Instead Adie presents an open and engaging account of people's motivations and invites the reader to reach their own conclusions. She strikes an excellent balance between some wry humour, particularly when recounting some of her own experiences, and an awareness of the dangers of the situations and occupations she discusses. Heartily recommended.

When this book was selected at our book club i thought it was going to be about the episodes of Kates life as a reporter for the BBC in various war zones.
Not so it has stories regarding various people who lead or have led different styles of lives involving danger, some looking for the excitement and some not.
There were a couple of interesting chapters but not what I thought I was getting.

This was chosen by the Book Club I belong to but wasn't at all what I was expecting. Nevertheless I really enjoyed it and thought it was well laid out. I especially enjoyed the discussions with the East End criminal and his phiosophy on life in his day and now.

Into Danger: Risking Your Life for Work

This book is, as you would expect from a Journalist, very well written. Although every chapter stands on its own it still maintains interest to the very end and you are drawn from one chapter to the next - from bomb disposal to war zone to missionaries. Very well worth buying.
