Mr Hammond has been doing books with a girl growing up lately (Fine Tune, Flamescape, both also recommended) the introduction to this one confesses that this is triggered by having 5 granddaughters. His protagonist this time has a degree in physics (I wonder if the Institute of Physics has noticed that the latest Dick Francis (Second Wind, also recommended) has one also (SNAP))

Anyway we have a girl growing up, adventure in a glider, meteorology, all with accurate detail so I guess if you liked the above books then you will like this one. The ending is rather facile tie-up-the-threads and annoy those who meant you ill, but well enough.
