This unique system mimics the actual layout of leaf-cutter ant colonies in the tropics. The 4 spherical pods and the tubing that connects them together are life-size replicas of the chambers and passageways that these ants would normally construct underground. Some of the pods are tinted red, so that the ants believe that they are in total darkness, even though they can easily be observed going about their daily routines. Soil, plants and worms can also be added to the pods, creating a fascinating mini eco-system.
Can be used with UK ant species. Ants are available separately from Interplay UK.

Bought the 8 pod unit for my youngest son for Christmas. This is an excellent bit of kit which is quite sturdy when handled properly. It makes quite a tall colony and has plenty of room for different ant environments.
On the subject of getting ants for the colony I just used the enclosed voucher and ordered them online. You can order ants from many places.

A great toy, but perhaps one best suited to supervised learning. It's not something that if left with a young child is obvious fun, but if you spend time with your child and the toy, pointing things out and perhaps sharing discoveries and research, Ant Spheres can be endlessly fascinating and educational!

We bought the ant farm for our Grandsons but they both got very bored with it very quickly. It is quite hard to see the ants. When they are in the tubes you can see them but not to well in the spheres. To be totally fair i think for older children maybe 11 and upwards it would be more fun. You have to be very careful when its built as you dont want ants all over your house. On the plus side our ants did thrive very well in it. We just put the clear tub in the garden with a bit of cotton wool in it soaked it in sugary water and hey presto loads of ants in it a few hours later.

A decent product
This is a decent product. My son loves all insects, so this is good for him to sit & watch & take care of.

Boring, boring Ant-O-Sphere
