A Basic Introduction,

The book is broken down into useful sections dealing with water conditions, substrate, lighting and other equipment, but the level of detail is a little too much on the basic side. For example, it's seldom clear whether or not the species it showcases are truly aquatic, or merely marginal plants (which usually don't thrive permanently submerged). Information about specific plant care and propogation is also quite limited, and although the layout is fairly easy, this is perhaps not the best book to rely on if you're of a mind to set up an impressive planted aquarium. If you do decide to settle on this title, be prepared to do some additional research to get the best out of your aquarium plants.

The book is well organized and beautifully illustrated with drawings and color photographs. In a little over 100 pages, Barry James uses mostly non technical language to provide valuable information on most popular aquarium plants. Read the book before you set up your next planted aquarium.
