This book was a bit 'basic' for my tastes and had the feel of a general textbook covering everything in a somewhat shallow way rather than offering something more specialised and in depth. Arguably, the Middle East as a whole is just too broad a topic for one book to cover. Don't expect any great insights, but I guess it's useful as a general introduction to the region if you know absolutely nothing about it.
