Product Description

Product Description
It focuses clearly and simply on the underlying economics of exchange rate dtermination and balance of payments. In Part I the author presents basic concepts within historical perspectives of the US and Global Economy. Part II intriduces a basic analytical model - usable with fixed and floating exchange rates, in which capital mobility is complete, real exchange rates are variable, and investment spending is endogenous. Variants of the model are used for short and long-run comparative static analysis. In addition, there is a relatively long chapter devoted to dynamic analysis with rational expectations. Part III contains three chapters on policy, including a full chapter on the European Moneatry System.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent undergraduate textbook, 5 Mar 2003
McCallum's textbook will prove invaluable to second and third year undergraduate students. As always, McCallum presents the theories clearly and has a unique advantage over other international economics textbooks, suchs as Krugman and Obstfeld's or De Grauwe's; whereas these present a variety of models without any clear logic McCallum provides a single framework from which all variants can be obtained by modifying some of its assumptions. The book also provides an introduction to rational expectations and covers some recent empirical evidence (although not as thorough as Isard).Overall, it is well worth having in your library!

1.0 out of 5 stars Too many typos and difficult to understand., 12 Nov 1998
By A Customer
I am in Professor McCallum's course on International Money & Finance and as a student who must read this book, I find it very difficult to read. If that is not enough, there are a significant amount of typographical errors.
