Based on the New International Version of the Bible, it is your one-stop shop for anything you want to know about the Bible, the greatest book on earth. Anything from Bible characters to the historical background to events in the Bible, it is all there for you to see. It came in handy when I was doing a research for my first book. I will recommend it to anyone wanting to get a deeper study of the Bible.

Excellent resource 2 May 2000
By D.C. Reviewer - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Of course dictionaries aren't usually meant to be read through like novels. Even though I haven't done that with this book, I would if I had the time. This is a must have for any student of the Word of God. In addition to the definitions, the book also gives good insight on the topics, placing them in their historical context. Zondervan has done it again!

I first encountered this wonderful Biblical reference book when I took an Intro. to the Bible class at the Philadelphia Bible College in Center City. I love this Bible dictionary. I have never searched for a subject, person, geographical location, etc. that I have not been able to find in this dicitonary. Consequently, when I encounter believers who are searching to know more of God's word, I will purchase this Bible dictionary as a gift. It is a great resource.
Essential for the Pastor's Shelf 5 April 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on
Format: Hardcover
I bought this reference work many years ago before becoming a United Methodist pastor. It looked like a thorough work when I bought it, but I quickly learned that this book is more than a Bible dictionary. It is a concise Bible encyclopedia that offers much historical, cultural and theological insight that has helped to strengthen my sermons and Bible studies for many years. Based on the NIV, it is still quite useful for those of us who favor other Bible versions. I generally use the NRSV and rarely have to cross reference with the NIV. I would gladly purchase this reference again if made available digitally or in Kindle. But regardless of the fact that the New International Bible Dictionary is only available in print, I highly recommend it as a 'must have' for the book shelves of students and pastors. It's just so handy for topical study!
Great set of books 13 April 2013

The New International Encyclopedia of... has several books in this set. I own the Encyclopedia of Bible Characters, the Encyclopedia of Bible Words, the Encyclopedia of Bible Difficulties, and now the New International Bible Dictionary. These reference books are based on the NIV and are very good resources. Many of the reference books available today can get the average Bible reader lost in hurry and a book that is hard to understand takes the fun out of studying God's Word. These books are well organized, packed with good information and easy to use; perfect for everyone from beginners to Bible students. I highly recommend any of the books in this series.
