This year’s edition brings several key new features to the popular Cricket Captain series. With the Twenty20 World Cup and the 2009 Ashes games entering the mix (both as a standalone feature and in-game), now there are even more trophies to be won. There’s also an updated online mode with Twenty20 included. Historic Ashes scenarios allow you to experience the past glory of capturing the coveted urn from the old enemy.

Cricket Captain 2009 Ashes Edition is unmatched for gameplay. With improved AI, a new integrated field setting editor, wider camera angles to watch highlights and even more authenticity, this year’s game is easily the best edition so far. The match screen has been improved further this year to make it clear, simple to use and more intuitive for those quick captaincy decisions. The new auto-sim feature makes the game play experience more relaxed. Twenty over matches have been another focus, with games now more realistic with higher scores and more sixes being hit, fully completing the experience and prolonging the enjoyment across all forms of the game.

Wouldnt disagree with what the previous reviewers have written here. It's a simple game, as you click your way through a domestic or international cricket match, but is strangely engrossing.
Scores are mostly realistic, with excessively high or low innings a rarity. Graphics much improved from previous versions. You can choose training for players (technique training or net practice), allocate physio sessions, promote youth players and prepare pitch types. There's a few in-game options (which are enough, in my opinion, although some may prefer more sophisticated control of what happens during the match), such as batsman aggression, field settings, batsman shield a tail ender from the strike, attack one bowler more than the other etc.
There is also a wealth of stats, useful when deciding which players to keep in your county squad, which youth players to offer contracts to, and whether some precocious talent is worthy of an international call up.

If you want a really in depth sports management, go for Championship Manager etc. This game is much less sophisticated than that, but it really passes the time (and probably about 1/1000th of the budget). Good game, and an improvement on previous versions.

Fun:
I downloaded this off the internet on a two day trial, just because it was free and I like cricket. It's simply laid out...perhaps too simple...but there were five separate game modes available. Before the actual match there is pretty much nothing to do except look at stats(It has loads of information you could look at them all day) and pick your squad once the match comes around. Then once you do get to the match again there is not much to do, although what you do do has quite a big affect on your batsmen or bowlers play. For a game where you dont actually play...the graphics on the 3d are pretty good and watching your batsmen hit four and sixes and your bowlers take wickets just because you've told them to bowl slightly fuller or to be more attacking is extremely satisfying. Because its such a simple game its also very quick so you get through long test matches quite quickly which is good.

Pros: Good 3d graphics
Very satisfying
Good value
Player name licences

Cons: Not much to do (which can be a pro)
Very simple (again could be a pro)
Slightly unrealistic things like first scoring shots tests often sixes

There is not much too say about this game...in theory it should be quite boring and there is no depth to the game. In practise though I found it quite fun and satisfying...and although I haven't bought the actual game it is good value for money.

Fun:
I've had this for three years now and i bought it wanting a fix of a cricket managers game, this allows you to take control of your desired side and lead them to glory. I've had this game so long that i got my Surrey cricket team up to 2014, where they dominated nearly every league.

The graphics are much improved on this than other models, and the gameplay is certainly realistic. You can get players getting high scores and then crumbling to low scores, this seems the pattern in my game. The innings scores are realistic and if you think it's too high then it's your terrible bowling attack. A tip i find that worked was swapping the bowlerss around after only a handfull of overs which means the batsmen cannot become settled on one bowler.

Batting performances can very as you will need in-form batsmen to get a quality score, yet it is better to have a out-of-form decent batmen than a in-form youth.

On the basis of youth you can change their name and manage their progression through the ranks, this can be helped by the training aspects which let you improve the bowling or batting areas of the player. It is recomended that you give some of your youth first class and one day games to see if they are better at any of good at both. Trust me a good player in one-day may not be that good in first class.

A great cheap game, would buy for this price. If you get into it you can be hooked. 4/5 on enjoyment (when goes correctly), 5/5 overall
