Product Description

The kata form an integral part of the karate training syllabus and act as templates through which the vast range of different moves can be practised, developed and perfected. This volume provides instruction in the intermediate kata required for grading from 3rd kyu through to 1st dan black belt. The kata covered are Tekki Shodan, Basai Dai, Ji'in, Jion, Jitte, Kanku Dai and Enpi. These kata are also a mandatory part of the black belt syllabus going forward through the higher dan grades. Alongside each kata, selected physical selected physical applications [bunkai] are provided for some of the moves to provide a more in-depth understanding.

Interesting Read 7 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback
A good read. With some ineteresting applications of the kata moves. Kata is all about individual interpretion but as a rough guideline this will point you in the right direction.

Format:Paperback
The standard of technique in this book is horrendous, if the author cannot perform the kata in the most basic form, how can you trust his applications or knowledge of the system. Very poor content. Understanding of real-world self-defence for this man is obviously at a zero. Nonsensical waste of time. Even his stances, which are not stills from a performance, they're clearly posed, are a joke. It looks as if hes about to keel over. Don't know where he bought his black belt but I hope he kept the receipt. Avoid like the plague.

Long on kata, short on bunkai 8 Dec 2011
By P. Kellingsworth - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The book contains pretty good photos of the kata sequences, then a few explanations of the bunkai. I do mean a few, as in like three per kata tops. I am much happier with my Elmar T. Schmeisser books and my Iain Abernethy videos, which are affordable at his website.
