This book was one of the first 'advanced' programming books I bought to improve my C programming. Hanson's advice on *encapsulation* and *data hiding* and the C specific mechanism he uses to implement it changed the way I think about software. It's now a common programming technique amongst my colleagues. Read this book to understand why Hanson advocates this approach and how it works, rather than for the code he presents.

Excellent book. Clearly written, well structured and typeset. Each chapter has a very good section on recommended further reading. Makes for an excellent reference.

Before I read the book, I was expecting to make use of the concepts almost immediately. However, after reading it, I felt that the book is not for average C programmers. I believe that this book is suitable for people with degrees in computing, with well-established understanding of the programming philosophy.
