After looking for an external Hard Disk, this Intenso suits my needs perfectly. I have a slightly aging MacBook (it's nearly 5 years old) but still works perfectly - however the puny hard drive only has a few hundred MB spare and this is the perfect solution....

...It plugs in via USB without the need for any power cable and allows me to transfer files to-and-from my Mac. I can also connect it to my work laptop (a non-Mac HP machine running Windows XP) and access the files from there. My full music collection and all my photos are now on this drive rather than on my laptop (they are of course also backed up onto DVD) and I can play/view the files from anywhere without having to install any additional software or carry around a hefty power cable.

That's all I wanted from an external Hard Drive and this does the job brilliantly, the read/write speeds could be a bit quicker but speed isn't really an issue for me as apart from when I first got the device I tend not to transfer massive batches of files. The 5400rpm is pretty much what I expected from a USB powered device and although the USB lead isn't very long it connects easily and securely - whilst in use a satisfying green light glows to show that everything is connected and powered.

320GB may not be enough for some but to be honest I think it's probably more than adequate for most - I have only just filled it by a third and that's with all the files I have! It is great popping movie files on there too to access when required - and the FAT32 format means it plugs into my Samsung Blu-Ray player and I can watch video files on my TV.

The device uses USB 2.0 rather than the newer USB 3.0 - that rules this out as a viable purchase for some, if you have a laptop/PC with USB 3.

With a daughter going off to Uni taking a laptop, this was a necessary purchase to make sure she was able to back up her important files. It is a really slim neat unit, which takes its power from the USB. Read/Write access times are quick enough for encouraging regular backups.

I've purchased 2 of these hard drives now after having problems with the MY PASSPORT range of hard drives. I've had one Intenso for around 6 months now and i've had no problems what so ever. The Intenso hard drive is brill, its quite fast, decent storage and still looks sleek. A definate recommendation for anyone looking for a cheap reliable hard drive.

My old Toshiba external drive finally died of old age and so a replacement needed to be found. I only used it as an overflow for files downloaded to my laptop and so I did not really need a drive of this large. However, a quick search of Amazon showed that the prices have fallen greatly and in fact the difference in price between large and small capacity drives was not great so I thought I may as well go for a large sized unit. This unit seem to have a preponderance of favourable reviews and was the cheapest priced for the size and so it became my choice.

It was delivered promptly and upon opening the Amazon box the drive itself was securely cushioned in an upmarket and swanky box. Apart from a multi language and frankly unnecessary manual inside the box apart from the drive there was also a cable. Usefully this was of the 'Y' type with two USB plugs one end to allow use with devices that need two sockets to delivery enough power. I found a normal USB to mini USB cable worked on my own laptop. Unlike with some similar products no backup or other software CD was included or supplied on the drive.

The unit has a glossy piano black appearance and looks up market and classy. A large and bright green LED confirms use.

The device was immediately recognised by my Windows 7 laptop and was at once ready for use. After several days of use no problems have arisen. This is a no nonsense device that just plugs in and does the job.

    The Good
    Inexpensive
    Attractive up market appearance
    Expensively and sturdily packaged
    Y cable supplied
    LED activity indicator

    The Bad
    No software supplied
Glossy surface may prove to be easily scratched.

Love the slim sleek design! Plug and play, no problems. Very quiet when operating. Formatted to FAT32, dont think that will be a massive issue for most people.

This HDD has been moody right from the beginning. I often needed to reconnect it to my laptop to be able to use it. It was just doing a beeping-clicking noise in 1 second intervals and was not able to connect. Disconnecting the cable from my laptop and then reconnecting it usually solved this problem.
However it now also happened that it wouldn't show certain files and made me think they have not been saved on this HDD. Once I reconnected the HDD to my laptop the files showed up though.
This impaired my trust in this devise and I am going to send it back.

When I bought this item I read some reviewers mentioning their product was no longer detected by the computer but I chose to ignore those reviews hoping some were just faulty. But of course just 4 months in my Intenso did the exact same thing. One day I go to plug it in and the computer no longer detects it even though the green light still appears on the intenso itself. Very kindly amazon has offered to send me a replacement but it still means I have lost all my files that were on my Intenso. If you want my advise I would pick a differed external hard drive company. This one just isnt reliable which is really what you want when you buy an external hard drive for backing up files.
