After looking for an external Hard Disk, this Intenso suits my needs perfectly. I have a slightly aging MacBook (it's nearly 5 years old) but still works perfectly - however the puny hard drive only has a few hundred MB spare and this is the perfect solution....
...It plugs in via USB without the need for any power cable and allows me to transfer files to-and-from my Mac. I can also connect it to my work laptop (a non-Mac HP machine running Windows XP) and access the files from there. My full music collection and all my photos are now on this drive rather than on my laptop (they are of course also backed up onto DVD) and I can play/view the files from anywhere without having to install any additional software or carry around a hefty power cable.
That's all I wanted from an external Hard Drive and this does the job brilliantly, the read/write speeds could be a bit quicker but speed isn't really an issue for me as apart from when I first got the device I tend not to transfer massive batches of files. The 5400rpm is pretty much what I expected from a USB powered device and although the USB lead isn't very long it connects easily and securely - whilst in use a satisfying green light glows to show that everything is connected and powered.
320GB may not be enough for some but to be honest I think it's probably more than adequate for most - I have only just filled it by a third and that's with all the files I have! It is great popping movie files on there too to access when required - and the FAT32 format means it plugs into my Samsung Blu-Ray player and I can watch video files on my TV.
The device uses USB 2.0 rather than the newer USB 3.0 - that rules this out as a viable purchase for some, if you have a laptop/PC with USB 3.0 then of course you want to make use of it, I'm sure newer versions of this external hard drive will include USB 3.0 compatibility. I don't personally have a USB 3.0 device but it's only a matter of time before I do - and it would have been nice to have been able to take advantage of the increased file transfer speeds. It's not a particularly big issue for me though as the time savings wouldn't have been that noticeable to me and the smallish files I transfer.
In a nutshell: A great external hard drive which looks great and is simplistic in its set up - plug and play. It might not be future proof (no USB 3.0) but for storing a large amount of files and making them portable then this is a solution which will work for most people.
