Everyday overclock of 4.9ghz on air and 1.38v

Max temps under Intel Burn 73c with a very average air cooler.

Why bother buying Ivy Bridge where a 4.2ghz overclock will make you reach these temps.

I paid a fraction over £200 for this boxed retail processor, money well spent!
My last system was based around an old E4200 dual core over-clocked to 2.4Ghz, test renders, audio processing and benchmarks were done before installing the new CPU, memory and motherboard. This new CPU runs quite hot with the stock cooling so I under-clocked it down to 3.2Ghz to repeat the same tests, my new system is now 6 to 10 times faster.
Yesterday I fitted an Asus Axe square cooler, and reset the clock to 3.5Ghz; here are the temperatures in Celsius;
Idle(after 30 min's) 100% (1hr at full load)
Stock 3.2Ghz 36 91
Asus Axe 3.5Ghz 29 60

So my advise, 3rd generation CPU's will run cooler but either cost more or not perform as well depending on the model, but if you can get an i7 2700K at a decent price - buy it. Whatever you buy, get the biggest/best CPU cooler you can afford.

Put this CPU in my machine as part of a Z68 set up, water cooled with Antec kuhler 920 : Idle 18 to 25 C ; Full load (gaming) 40to 55 C . Does a very good job, no problems so far (4 months use).

I was going to go with the new 3770k but after a days research I decided this was best for overclocking, especially to 5 ghz. Mines been overclocker for a good few months now and it's as cool as a cucumber. Never goes above 70c with basic water cooling @ 1.4v, these processors are fine up to 1.425v, this is intels max recommended voltage. I here the 3770k runs hotter even though I think it's 22nm, this is 32nm I believe. (correct me if I'm wrong)

After Installing the Intel Core i7-2700K 3.5 GHz Quad Core Processor (Socket 1155, 8MB L3 Cache, HyperThreading Technology, Retail) I found It a lot quicker on doing the tasks I bought It for , like encoding a cd/dvd or a movie, and at a good price from amazon which couldnt be missed

You really know where the extra money went when you buy an i7. There is nothing that compares.

I was buying this for a client who was on a budget. Personally i would have gone for an ivy bridge but there is certainly nothing to moan about with this processor. My client is super happy with it.
