Take control with the 6th Generation Intel Core processors codenamed "Skylake-S". The i5 6600K is the flagship processor of the Skylake-S line-up that features exceptional performance that is increased by up to 22% and offers 6x faster storage bandwidth for quicker media access, all this means for an all-round more responsive PC. The 'K' prefix shows that this CPU is Unlocked and has overclocking enabled this is great news for extreme gamers and enthusiasts. The Intel Core i5 6600K boasts a 3.5 GHz base frequency and 3.9 GHz turbo frequency, the processor is also built on a 14 nm process, with a 95 W maximum TDP. The chip is a Quad-Core design with 4 threads. Integrated into the processor is Intel HD Graphics 530 which delivers mainstream-level graphics with discrete-level performance and has full support for DirectX 12 API. Intel's 6600K is fully unlocked allowing you to tune performance and obtain higher frequencies when used with Intel 100 series chipsets. Previous generation Intel processors such as the Core i7 4790K processor used DDR3 memory, typically running at 1600 or 2133MHz. The Core i5 6600K has an enhanced memory controller that supports DDR4 memory, giving you a very healthy performance boost over DDR3. Intel Core i5 is a brand name applies to several families of desktop and laptops, The Core i5 brand targets the more mainstream markets for both desktop and laptop computers, and is distinguished from the entry-level Core i3 and the business and high-end consumer Core i7.

Great Buy For Gamers!27 Aug. 2015

The i5-6600K is an astounding processor for gaming and is overclock friendly, so don't make the mistake I've been making for years and fall pray to the only-i7 for gaming hype. Unless you're intending to make multiple VMs on your machine or do professional video editing for a living, there is ZERO benefit to buying an i7.
!!!Side Note Please Read!!! There's several reviews claiming the i5-6600K provides a large (10-30) increase in FPS over the "older" i5-4690K while combined with a discrete gpu (970/980 gtx sli/no-sli), but this is false and misleading. Your video games are heavily, almost entirely, GPU bound with little to no influence from your CPU. The overall core clock speed of your CPU is the biggest factor that holds sway over a games performance... Period! It's not my intention to "out" people, but the claim that this CPU will provide large FPS increases is not only false but laughable, even an i7-2600K Sandy Bridge from 2009 only falls short by a handful of FPS of current gen i5/i7s when combined with identical discrete GPUs. This whole premise reinforces the idea behind saving $100, opting out of the i7, and getting an i5 with the intent of gaming.
However... should you be excited for this CPU? Absolutely, undeniably yes, but not because of the CPU. Your excitement should stem from the fantastic 1151 MoBo Architecture this CPU sits on, and not to go into exhausting detail but, DDR4, USB C/3.1, dedicated 4x pci storage lane, etc, etc.
TL;DR - i5-6600K Perfect for gamers -- increase in FPS over "older" i5/7s is shenaniganz -- be excited for 1151 arch' improvements

SkyLake is Fast and worth every penny although it's not a monumental update to Devils Canyon.19 Aug. 2015

Pros: Fast, fast, and fast!
Runs at 3.9 GHz out of the box on an ASUS Maximus Hero motherboard. Overclocks flawlessly to 4.6GHz with ASUS Suite 3. I have no doubt I can push it to 5Ghz but that's for later OC sessions planned in the future.
Dx12 support is upcoming and it should be awesome.
I have experienced about 15-30 FPS gains using the same SLI GPUs from my i5-4670k build.
Cooling: Fully compatible with my Corsair H110i GTS Liquid Cooler, which I use to keep it very cool. (under 45 C under load) Air cooling was so so at 70 C
Cons: No heat sink included, but this is a non-issue for overclockers like myself who go the liquid cooling route. Intel seems to be cheaping out on these things to increase their profits.
Unfortunately with the new chipset it requires new motherboard and new ram, which means more of an initial investment. Still decided to go through with it as it was worth the other improvements that came with the chipset such as more pcie lanes, which means fast M.2 ssd's and more lanes to my SLI setup.
Price-point is marginally higher than previous architecture releases, but understandably so. (By Approx $30 or so)
Marginal Improvements at best over devil canyon.
Other Thoughts: This build was well worth the wait. The performance increases, multi-tasking (especially coupled with the new Windows 10 operating system), and video encoding/rendering are noticeably improved from my i5-4670k build.
If you are deciding whether to go with a i7-4790k that you get on sale for $250 vs this, I'd still say to go for the I5-6600k as the performance compares benchmark wise more or less inline to each other. I wouldn't recommend getting the i7-6700k for an extra $100-130 as it's availability is nonexistant till september/october, and the performance gains are minimal at best for the extra cost. This chip is the best bang for the buck as far as current skylake releases go.
I'll attempt to update this again more indepth as I get more testing in.

Intel's Skylake: Enormous Overclocking (and Gaming!) Potential21 Aug. 2015

Welcome to Intel's first architecture since Sandy Bridge with extreme overclocking potential! Day 1 sees me running stable at a whopping 4.9 GHz with this beautiful little chip, the Core i5-6600k. As an added bonus, she's staying nice and cool thanks to the new 14nm fab process and an NZXT Kraken X61 liquid cooling unit. While it's true that at stock speeds Skylake is only about 6% faster than Haswell Refresh (Devil's Canyon), the overclocking potential and power efficiency of these chips would appear to be far superior to that of the Haswell chips.
For gamers looking for the latest and greatest tech to push those frame rates higher and for overclockers looking for the next chip to push to 5.0 GHz (or for those who do both like myself!), the i5-6600k is the chip you've (I've) been waiting for since Sandy Bridge. (For those unfamiliar with Intel's codenames, Sandy Bridge refers to the i5-2500k and i7-2600k.) I couldn't be more satisfied this chip, and I haven't said that about a CPU since the rig I built based on, you guessed it, an i5-2500k. Don't look back, Skylake is the way forward! (Oh, and if you're building a new rig, do yourself a favor and pick up an SSD if you don't already have one. You haven't experienced a blazing fast computer until you pair a good CPU with an SSD!)

I am a computer technician who owns a mobile repair service. I have built many computers and I'm always fixing and using retail PC's. This is the fastest CPU I have ever experienced! I purchased an Antec Minuet case with a 350 Watt PSU. Installed Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) Ram. Since the CPU does not come with the heat sink and fan so I used the Noctua L-Type Premium Quiet CPU Cooler(NH-L9x65). My hard drive is a 480 GB SSD. From the moment I finished building the PC and turned it on I was experiencing "shock and awe" at the incredible speed and performance. I installed Office 2013 Pro Plus (complete) in about 3 minutes. I highly recommend this processor! Motherboard i used...Gigabyte LGA1151 Intel Z170 Micro ATX DDR4 Motherboards GA-Z170M-D3H.

A lot faster than my old AMD, I didn't overclock it too much since I only use a 500w power supply but it runs very cool with air cooling at 4.5Ghz (thanks to 14nm and the new architecture of course). Really isn't worth it to spend over 100 extra for the i7 unless you use hyperthreading a lot. Spend the extra money on GPU or mobo or a m.2 ssd will give you a much more significant boost in performance. Still with no heatsink intel is overpricing this thing significantly, hopefully they make some good progress in technology with all the extra money grabbed from us!
