Allows me to run SWTOR along with a GTX 460 1024mb at max settings and getting 45-60 fps in PVP (compared to 15-20 fps at low settings with my E8400 and same video card).
Stays nice and cool (Idles at 30*, at load it maxed out at 60*)
For the people who are complaining about it overheating on some forums...did you install the heatsink that came with it? And did you push the pins down after they were locked in?
You need to continue to push down firmly in order to ratchet the heatsink down to create a better connection with the CPU heatspreader. It will make that eerie cracking noise a few times...don't worry, your mother board isn't cracking, it's just the heatsink retention pins ratcheting down.
Well, it's definitely an improvement over Sandy Bridge.
From a gaming point of view, i have this paired with a MSI gtx 660, with 8gb ram. Games play flawlessly, Skyrim with all settings on max even with the high resolution texture pack plays smoothly. Minecraft hits the hundreds in terms of fps with everything maxed out. Batman Arkham city so far hasn't been the smoothest of games i played, there is the occasional stutter but you quickly get over it. If you were thinking of using the integrated gpu for slight gaming then you might be slightly disappointed, its not great but it gets the job done. If your not into gaming or or any sort of graphics (photoshop, after effects, sony vegas...) then it will just fine. It isn't as good as intel hd 3000 so try use this alongside a graphics card.
On the performance side, applications load very quickly, i recieve a windows index score of 7.5 for the processor. This cpu can't overclock very much as its locked. But if you are intending to overclock then go with the 3570k. The power consumption is lower compared to sandybridge, which when combined with a kepler gpu, results in power consumption being very low. I am using a 500w psu and i haven't had a single blue screen.
So if your intending to do some gaming, working and browsing, pair this with a graphics card and this should turn out very nicely for you.
The box is nice too, small with the blue and yellow and holograms... And it comes with a heatsink/fan already, which is why the Zalman CNPS5X I bought is still in its box.
Computer parts do a job. Reviewing them without going in to total geek mode is difficult. Just know, this is a fast processor and does everything you expect it to at speeds faster than I can comprehend.
Asus P8Z77-V LX Motherboard, Corsair CML8GX3M2A1866C9R LP Vengeance 8GB 1866MHz CL9 DDR3 Memory Two Module Kit & Samsung 840 Pro SSD.
OS Windows 7 Ultimate.
No Overclocking/tweaking with system other than preset "High performance mode"
Using the stock supplied heatsinnk (2 case fans runnning, front & rear + PSU fan):
Idle = 34 celsius, Windows update = 42 celsius, Video conversion (VOB>DivX) = 54 celsius (Ambient 22 celsius).
At best I've only used 53% of cpu on Video conversion. Windows experience rating 7.6
This is everything a CPU should be, cool, expediant and of course it's Intel, I've never used anything else!
