At this time (16-September-2014) the price you see is £281.73 from Intel. On the sidebar, under Other Sellers on Amazon, Amazon is selling this for £249.00. The add to basket option at the top is not from Amazon!
When I purchased this processor, there was only £10 difference between it and the 4770k. The 4780k was also about the same price. I chose the 4790k because the benchmarks were slightly higher than the 4780k and at roughly the same price, it was a very good deal.
So far the 4790k has been of no trouble whatsoever, I installed it into a z87 motherboard and was able to update the motherboard to recognise Devil's Canyon without a problem.
Currently I am still using the stock fan, which is a bit loud but it has done a good job keeping my CPU idling at 35 degrees when in normal use, and under 65 when playing casual games. When using prime95 the cpu temp rose to 85 degrees but stayed constant even after a day of prime95 stress testing.
Currently I am still using the integrated graphics card, which is actually more powerful that I thought, I am able to run minecraft at 60fps with all the settings on max. Starcraft on the other hand maintained a constant 30fps on normal settings and watch dogs at 30ftps on lower settings.
Overall this is a very good processor and hopefully the price will drop soon with the release of Broadwell and Skylake.

This CPU is amazingly powerful and has improved cooling over the other haswell processors. Most people will not need this and performance crazy enthusiasts probably got an intel 8-core cpu already. But for the people who need this it's worth it. I can even use the Integrated graphics to game! I've been playing VALVe games on it which it runs perfectly fine because of the well optimized engine and I've also been playing some fallout new vegas which I had to turn down to low settings but at least it does some basic gaming!
I recommend Buying it from E-Buyer like I did, Much better price even with 1-day shipping and I've had no problems with it.

Okay, some people may not like what I have to say but it is what it is. Only last week (19/09/14), I built my new intel rig (4790K and Asus Z97WS motherboard), although it took me two days to get the bloody thing working. I will come back to this later. It was with a heavy heart that I decided to 'upgrade' my trusty and reliable AMD FX9590 and Asus Crosshair V Formula Z rig. In fact, I have not seen a new AM3+ motherboard since September 2012 when Asus released the then new Formula Z. I did not want to 'upgrade' to intel but felt it would be wise to do so (in a monetary sense at least) since my phone conversation with the AMD tech support advisor confirmed that the current AMD road map has no plans to release any more new AM3+ motherboards for 2014/15.
I decided to sell my current AMD rig whilst I can get good money for it, rather than wait till March 2016 when the new gen K12/X86/ARM hybrid cpu's will be released by AMD alongside the new AM4 platform. If I keep my current rig, it would sell for a pittance in March 2016 and I would lose a lot of money. Only a few days ago I sold my FX9590 for £150 and my Formula Z for £120 (total £270).
I was initially going to go for the X99 platform and the 5930K but after looking at benchmarks against the new 4790K 'Devils canyon' (odd name for a cpu!), I could not justify the exorbitant price tag of the X99 platform. Since I plan to use intel only for the interim, it also made sense not to spend so much money. I opted for the Asus Z97WS motherboard as it offers quad SLI/Xfire support, with the first two cards running at x16 in pcie3 configuration (I have a pair of Sapphire TRIX R9-290's in Xfire). However, there is a great deal of contention stating dual pcie3 x16 does not offer any significant performance improvement.Read more ›

Its a quick processor but I guess I was just unlucky, mine runs 4.4GHz at 90 degrees C every once in a while but mostly stays below 75 degrees with a strong custom water-cooling loop at load. seriously considering de-lidding my product to improve its temps as it only runs at 1.2v which is pretty good.
So disappointed with the temps randomly spliking and when they do it takes a reset to bring them back down, pretty sure its not enough of a defect for a replacement, if it is let me know asap before I do anything regrettable. if it had the stock cooler it probably would've burnt out by now

Only rated this item as a four, only because I had to make so many adjustments on the BIOS of my Asus Z87 Pro mother board just to make sure that the CPU didn't over heat. Intel really Ned to make some updates IMHO.
